Eager, would love to, but have a stack of stuff to do tomorrow prior to heading off with the Army for a bit.
It's a very sage point though and something that could not be easily identified or fixed. At the higher velocity, that 155 grn round would still be supersonic at 1000 yrds. At the lower velocity , call it 2600 fps, it would be struggling at 900. That would mean a grouping the size of a small cow at the max range of the longer shoot i was planning to enter. The shorter of the two would still be ok though.
Maybe only the one event then...

Go for it - the 2 comps are separate (unless you pay for the aggregate), so if the long range doesn't go to plan it won't affect the other score...at worst you could have fun trying and learn a lot about the rifle and ammo for the next time...

Well, got my squadding info through this morning from Sally.
I start at 8am on the 400 yard firing point on Century, with a trip to Stickledown and 800 yards in the afternoon. This means I have to arrive at Bisley on Saturday in enough time to:
1) Buy ammunition,
2) Zero the rifle
3) Arrive at Century at 8am
Given that I have to come from Cambridge and the NRA shop only opens at 8 or just before, I suspect that it might not happen that easily. I'm also worried about having to zero on a 77 foot range, then immediately move to 400 yards and shoot there. By my reckoning, that's not even 25m (23.47 according to Google), so any errors on the millimetre scale here will be huge at 400 yards.
I'm also going to have to either get up at 5am, or sleep in my car after a late night drive to Bisley. That should be good for my shooting. I'm sorely tempted to cancel 800/900/1000 and try and move the shorter shoot to the afternoon.
Anyone have any info on what time the NSC shop opens? I was planning on getting my ammunition from there.

James,
HPS will be at the Phoenix at the Bisley Gun Club next to the clay centre. Not sure re opening times though.
Zeroing at the Zero Range is pretty accurate. Buy a target at the NRA Office. Assuming the rifle is bore sighted OK I suggest you set your scope for proposed 1K yd setting, aim at the bottom black aim mark and sort a reading for 1k first. Then work down the target and the distances. If you start at your 300yd setting the aim mark can get so mutilated that it becomes a hole and you loose the nice round circle to aim at.
Hope this helps

The target frame is pretty large from 400x - from there you have sighters. In fact you can probably bore-sight to get in the black. If your ballistics match the trajectory that the zero target is based on it can give a pretty good approximation. Last time I used it I went from zero range to 1000x and the first shot was a 'V'.
Ideally you want to be arriving at the FP at least 20 mins before your scheduled start time. I don't know what time zero will be open during the meeting, but it would need to be very early to give you a fighting chance of zeroing before an 08:00 match. Can you arrange for anyone to buy ammo for you the day before?

There may be a couple of people of this fair parish that I could maybe ask nicely, but the timing is going to be the tricky part. If I need to be at the firing point 20 minutes early, that counts out zeroing dead on 0800.
I have a rough zero on the rifle currently, but with a totally different load. I can see zeroing being more than just a couple of confirmation shots because of that, although I do not expect it to be far away.
On a plus side, I think my wife sounded more positive than not when I said I might have to sleep over the night before, but I think arriving midday Friday and getting all that stuff out of the way would be taking the mick slightly, with work as well as her.

Even with a 'rough' zero with different ammo - we are talking about 400 yards here. You are going to be on the paper...
But what about phoning squadding and asking if you can be accomodated later in the morning (assuming your morning is otherwise free).

Already spoke to Sally about that. I'm in about the only arrangement that works for me with both shoots I've entered. Hell, if a rough zero is going to be good enough, then I guess just buying rounds and legging it to Century might be enough (as long as it is not blowing a gale).
That still leaves the early morning or the sleeping in the car, but I can handle that.

Just realised that I'm going to be less than an hour away from Bisley this weekend, with a potential to be there on Sunday afternoon. Does anyone know whether the shops (both I guess) are open on Sundays and, if so, what time they shut?
*** Edited after I checked the web. Looks like as long as I can get there before about 1730, I should be able to get to the armoury whilst it is open. The shop at the NSRA Lord Roberts Center also appears to be open as long as I get there before about 1700.
Happy days. I have a plan.

NRA and Fultons will be open. Both nominally until 18:00 in while summer shooting times are in operation. It will be pretty busy once shooting stops and people are keen to get home.
