the place im thinking of shooting is a quarry, far from anywhere, so Mrs Miggins' and Tiddles can breath a sigh of relief.... pending permission from the landowner.
i think other people already have permission for full-bore rifles up there ,

Not really - you realise the slug 'ball' by itself isn't section 1?
With a few notable exceptions (expanding bullets etc.), only assembled cartridges (with their own ignition system) are considered to be licensable ammunition from a legal perspective.
So even a nitrate paper wrapper muzzle loading round (ball and powder) still isn't section 1. Neither is a slug once it's been separated from the section 1 cartridge it came from...

Speaking from personal experiance i have had no problem shooting ball loaded muskets on private land. I have even seen replica Artillery (sub 2" bore) live fired on private property as part of a TV show segment.
