I have tried more and less than eight notched to see if it was the springs in the mags causing the issues

In all honesty there's very little that can go wrong with a simple blow back, which is what the 10/22 is. As said, the magazine of the 10/22 is it's strong point, but they can go wrong.

The way I see it your choice is simple. You have a new recoil spring, check the inside of the receiver to make sure there are no internal score marks that would indicate that the bolt is not traveling straight, get some decent copper washed ammo made for semis, such as CCI AR Tactical, and a couple of new mags. Give it a good work out. If it doesn't work then, out it "spares or repairs".

If you don't fancy going to those lengths, then get rid as "spares or repairs".....

Me i'd say sell it but then again looking for a cheap 10/22 so i may be slightly biased...

RWS Semi-Auto is fairly clean, I used it in my Stg-44.

Just a thought, will the banana mags fit a standard 10/22? Is it worth trying those if they do? Can anyone else advise, I'm not a Ruger expert.

Also what's the consensus on oiling mags? I'm sure I've read somewhere that they should be kept un-oiled. In this case could oil be attracting the carbon/powder etc and contributing to the jamming?

Is this a recent problem, or has the rifle always been like that?

Btw: I use a clear mag in my 10/22, and it's a lot dirtier at the moment than the one in your picture, but is functioning fine...

Don't tell anyone, but I never dissemble the Ruger mags anymore - I just squirt some Action Blaster in - give it a shake and turn it upside down. Crud comes out. Then - even worse - I spray WD 40 in and give it a shake and leave it to drain upside down.

Seems to keep them running.........

I've heard a few people on the forums bemoaning their 10/22's.I must have been bloody lucky as the oldish one i bought for £70 has hardly missed a beat and as for mags i have 7 ruger 10 shot and 2 butler creek 25 shot jobbies and have no problems with them and with hardly any crud build up.

Strip the mags once or twice a year and reassemble dry. Recent light strikes and FTF turned out to be a bolt issue with mine.
