No "trench" models are UK legal due to their short barrels.

Minimum UK length for pump and semi auto is 24".
UK laws also have minimum total length criteria for the above action types.

Sadler,

I know someone with one, it's fun when slam fired.

Is there not something about it being ok if the gun was built before a certain date?

My '97, Win M12 & Ithaca 37 all slam fire.

Not heard of any date cut off issue regarding short barrels.
Sounds more like rumours/wishful thinking. ..

I'm sure the date thing is to do with a grace period for 20 inch barreled pumps and semis being able to be fitted with an extension to make the legal length after the 1988 Amendment Act. My 870 was done about 6 months after the Act because of the amount if work the gunsmiths had backed up.

If a tube fed semi auto is what you want, get a Stoeger 3000 from Riflecraft. They do a 9+1 with enlarged bolt release for £749, Stoeger is owned by Benelli. It uses a very similar inertia operating system to the M2.
The gas operated Beretta 1301 will cost you about £1100 for a 9+1 capacity. A good shotgun, but I'm no fan of gas operation shotguns and opted for the Stoeger myself.

The tricked out Mossberg semi auto is worth looking at.
They've brought out a Jerry Miculek model. Looks NICE...

I want to try out a 1301 but they are like hens teeth ...

I arranged with GMK to have their demo model at the CLA Game Fair so I could handle and try it out. And what did they do? - did not take it with them. Did they apologise? NO.

Try a Beretta 391 Teknys because that's all the 1301 is except fitted with some extended parts. Oh, but the 1301 is assembled in Spain from parts made in Turkey.....

CZ HC-P pump action comes with pistol grip and excellent ghost ring sights. AND it is rifle accurate out the box! $500 in the States, not sure what they are here though.
