Don't know about flavour of the month but the very best flux is sawdust. Has to be from real wood not this man made like MDF or Ply

Failing that a good stir with a dry stick does the business.

I use sawdust when cleaning alloy and dry stick stir in the pot at the beginning of each casting session.

The sawdust ash is good if left thick on the surface of the melt as it stops oxidisation, I only do that with my bottom pours.

Here she is, parker hale two band naval rifle proofed in 1981. Few dings here and there and she ineligible for competition on account of resin bedding at the breech, but she feels and looks lovely. Can't wait to shoot it!
