You haven't heard much about the Vepr12 then?.

I did and I like the idea of it. RPK style receiver and the works, but right now.... Its too rich for my blood. You'd think there was a conspiracy to bump the price of Vepr's up (despite those sanctions not all Russian guns and ammo are sanctioned. I still get Barnual, Americans still get Tula and Molot was not incorporated into KC so we all still get Veprs, though I do wonder if there is a conspiracy to make us pay more).

But thanks for the heads up on one. Hopefully one day we'll get Saigas again. I do wonder though if those Catamount furies could be brought into the uk? They're like a chinese made Saiga clone but it uses it's own mag (century arms the US importer often only has the 5 rounders and anyone wanting the 10 rounders has more chance of dinner with Jennifer Lopez).

Well we're still getting Barnual, Tula and Molot stuff. Maybe their way of saying sod it is by slowing down imports so we pay more? Worst russian accent starting (seriously I can't do Kyle from FPS Russia's, his is great) "Yes you can have your well made mag fed shotguns, but we'll import them at a slower rate so you pay for them, ha ha ha ha". Or it could just be one of those things In the US a Molot shottie is going for $799.99. Cheaper than here, but not Catamount fury or what a Saiga 12 wen't there a few years back. In any event I'd had plenty of new Barnaul and a youtube gun reviewer in canada appeared to have some too. So alot of stuff is good to go.

Back to the matter at hand. I first heard of the lever action 12 bore from the Aussie (Fake controversy, just some whining Greenies) and then 2 and 2 came together in my head and its a good idea for rough shooting and might even be fun for open manual shotgun in the IPSC and other practical matches. Either cut the barrel in line with the tube so you get an 18 inch jobby or try and find a 2 shot extension to give you 9+1 while keeping 20 inches of barrel length. I know there is no pistol grip option (only straight and semi pistol grip) due to it being a lever action. But I have another idea. Whatever self-ejecting actions come and we have (and more may come hopefully) on an AR10, there are some companies that make AR10 shotgun uppers for lowers. Might be one option there to have all the goodies and be something different.

I managed to get mine for the equivalent of a few hundred by means of a swap of kit the dealer needed so I am a bit biased.

But I would probably have paid rrp for it if I had to.

Yes you can buy cheaper ( my last one was a Hatsan ) but what price do you put on reliability ?

When you pay entry fee for a match, fuel and time for a 2hr drive only to miss out on a medal due to a couple of malfunctions - what price do you put on that ?

What about the man hours fettling ? What is every one of your hours worth to you ? And the bits that you add to make it run the way it should have run out of the box ?

Then there is the depreciation. On the hatsan I lost a fortune.

I reckon I would lose very little based on what I got for the Tigr I sold. Again, expensive new. But holds it value.

Are you referring to this gun I've started the thread with? Its a section one firearm. The 24 inch barrel limit as per the 1988 amendment act only affects and this is the big key here ONLY AFFECTS SGC shotguns and pumps and semis on FAC's. Any other shotguns on FACs such as single break barrels, double barrels, bolt actions or Lever actions or even anything that is none of those (who knows what people will come up in the future) are not restricted to a 24 inch barrel with OAL of 40 inches. the 12/24 or 30/60cm rule now applies like any other long gun. So long as your club has the facilities for shotgun including the use of slugs, you do not need to be a member of western shooting or IPSC or anything else. Just your club facilities are the key. Though you might get bored shooting on your lonesome and then decide to give IPSC a go. As its a modern design unlike the 1887 repro's you can't use it in western shooting. But open Division practical shotgun is good to go.

*Standard Manual division - There is no minimum barrel length for IPSC matches whcih would put this gun into Open division (there is a maximum OAL restriction for Open and Modified though)

As said, you wouldn't need to tell the FLD about the specific shotgun when applying for the slot, you would just ask for a 12bore multishot shotgun slot (or lever-action multishot shotgun if your FLD insists on action type ). It would be getting your RFD to not wet their knickers when they saw the length of the barrel which would be the issue

To an extent yes, but obviously dependant on how long of a mag extension was added. You'd still be carrying less weight though and have a smaller profile when negotiating apertures.

It seems like a 2 shot extension bringing it up to 9+1 would still leave you plenty of room.
