There is nothing better than the sound of a Merlin
Not when you're on the regular flight circuit from Duxford. Bloody things. Especially when your'e trying to listen to Barry Manilow in the garden. B*stards

Seriously?......you'd rather listen to Manilow than a Merlin???, what kind of man are you???!!!

I was jesting tovarisch. Although the number of spitfires flying from Duxford nowadays does make the sound of a Merlin seem almost commonplace. Still look up though when they practice aerobatics for airshows and the supercharger(s) kicks in. Saw a Catalina Flying Boat and a B17 last week.....

Oh, Thank God for that

....you had me going there
Every year the Battle of Britain memorial flight used to fly over Shrewsbury on both days of the Shrewsbury Flower Show years ago but it was dropped in the mid 90s, I can only assume it was due to cost.I used to work at Perkins Engines, formerly Rolls Royce, in Shrewsbury and the Spitfire used to do a Victory Roll over the factory every year followed by the Lanc. When I started there in '89 there was an old German guy working there who on hearing the sound of the Merlins would hide under his bench whilst everyone else was outside, I found out later that he had been in Dresden......on the 13th of February 1945.

I'd love to watch a Lanc do a victory roll........................

It would seem that the Vulcan is under investigation after a film allegedly showing it doing a barrel roll has surfaced.

I used to help out at the Spitfire Prom at Belton House in Grantham, one year the house manager changed to a guy who had better links to someone in the Memorial Flight, so there was also a Lanc which came along, they put on a show for about 20 mins, much more than the usual 2 flyovers it was used to getting. So glad I had a chance to be up on the roof for that one.
but sadly, they haven't had one for a few years, due to the cost the flight charge and I think the House manager moved on again.
