Volquartsen have been selling compensators for their barrels for a long time, there must be something in it.

I picked up a secondhand 10/22 with a Volquartsen compensator on it.

Can't say I noticed a difference to be honest! Only thing it seemed to achieve was getting the nickname of the power washer due to its looks.


That said, a nice design of muzzle break or flash hider on a .22 can really help with the aesthetics. Yeah it can shoot nice but many people also want it to look nice too. I've considered finding something for one of my 10/22.
