Mayfair CNC their rifle actions from scratch so no 98 parts whatsoever. The Mausingfield is a bit of a hybrid whereas the Mayfair is a true Mauser design and there is a huge difference in price between the two (I would take the Mayfair any day!) Also, the Mauser is of a controlled feed design which would not be my first choice for target. Interestingly there are some manufacturers of best rifles here in the UK who still used 98 receivers certainly into the late 90s and probably even to this day. H&H being a good example.

Barrels are seldom serialised, exceptions springing to mind being Accuracy International and Taurus and as Rox suggests, a rifle is never your rifle until it has been re-barrelled and if it is a direct swap you have no need to advise your licensing department.

2-Stage triggers, there is only the CG as a true 2 stage to suit the older TR offerings.

Mauser 98 parts fit the Mayfair action perfectly with most Best London makers using Reckangel parts. Having been envolved in and around best London makers they still use control feed actions from Mauser (Rigby Big Game) or for best rifles Mayfair.

Okay. Its just my KK500 has the serial number stamped on the barrel (and the bolt as well!)

I was in exactly the same boat, I spent months of checking forums every day, and when I spotted the one I wanted I sent the guy a message asking for it within an hour of him posting the listing, and had it the next weekend! Just keep checking all the forums and classified sites and keep everything crossed!
