What would be a good example of Section a 5 semi-auto firearm and cartridge
Good exemples & popular ones are Garand or SVT40 both in 30-284W
This complicated law can present some loopholes as I know of a sport shooter in my French club who had decided to give up the sport. He was therefore obliged to sell, demil or surrender his firearms but decided to keep a Garand that had sentimental value (gun was captured by his grandad during the war). So he had it converted in section 5 and was able to keep it legaly in a "firing" condition.

I would be interested to hear if the Swiss K31 has to be rechambered for 30x284, as the 284 win case was often used in the K31 in the States due to lack of 7.5x55 ammo, so is the "conversion" just a paper one ?

St-Malo had been converted into a Festung (fortress) by the Germans and the fighting were quite heavy in August 44. I am not 100% sure how his Grand-father got hold of the Garand wether it part of the weapons given to local resistance groups or if it was merely picked-up after the batlle.
Yep there are a lot of K11/K31 rechambered in 30-284 - A French Gun-smith has even specialised into converting section 1 into section 5 weapons and even invented a caliber to that effect , the 30-284 Nolasco.
