And unfortunately thats why we're borderline 1984 now.

Aye complacency, acquiescence and appeasement the rot at the core of UK shooting and gun ownership.

It is bad enough when the NRA, BASC and any other would be shooting organisations rollover and take the shafting but when shooters are rolling over for the shafting as well then shooting is truly doomed.

What's the alternative though? Consider a person's suitability once every five years? It's a fact of life - things change quickly these days. Five years feels like a virtual eternity sometimes.

The vagaries and inconsistencies of the certification system needs to be tackled on a national level by a representative gun owners body.

We have organisations who claim to be just that but none of them are stepping up to the mark.

That's it in a nutshell Dromia. I was just reading yesterday on another site, a chap put in for a .243, the FEO says no but you can have a 22-250. chap seemed very pleased with the result. Some of the worst cases of the "I'm all right jack" mentality I've come across have been from the old school local club .22 prone shooters. It's not only that they can't see the point of someone wanting to own more than one rifle they seem to be in the camp where they would actually ban anything that doesn't conform to their way narrow of thinking.

What we need is a national police force, all reading off the same page......

For my grant application last year I was asked to give usernames for the forums and socials that I use. I suspect any withholding of online identities subsequently discovered would be looked on poorly.
Which force asked for those social media details? That is totally outside the HO guidance.

A perfect example of club management narrow way of thinking ...they believe the ventilation is acceptable for air rifle shooting , but wont improve it for firearms users because they believe " we have to balance capital costs versus benefit versus return "

I shoot at a range that is cleared for .45 but the "committee" decided that they would only allow .38 because they don't want big holes in the linatex. They nearly had a fit when I said I wanted to use my .357 Winchester 94ae and I had a real job to convince them that .357 and .38 was the same calibre and I could hand load to the same spec as the Magtec .38 cowboy loads they sold for use on the range.
