The short answer is 'yes'; the longer answer is that there are various restrictions that come into play such as wildlife preserves, how close roads or dwellings may be to the shooting area, if the area has been designated shotgun only, what the fire season may be like. It is the shooter's responsibility to insure that the area is safe and not prone to having someone pop over the hill into your target zone. Amazingly enough there are very few shooting accidents or incidents in the desert or national forests that permit shooting like this. The main issue are brush fires when the brush is dry as a bone and a steel jacketed round hits a rock and starts a fire. If that happens the shooter is liable for all of the costs of putting the fire out.ovenpaa wrote:So you can stick a tin can or a target up and just shoot as long as you are satisfied the area is safe to use?
