More than 250 positions, including 87 civilian jobs, will disappear when the barracks cease normal service in two years, say representatives from civil service and government unions.

Although Ministry of Defence (MoD) bosses deny a decision has been taken about the 74-year-old base’s future, the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) and Unite have both confirmed the site will be filled by a field regiment, which would require only five civilian members of staff.
