It should have been stamped on the barrell what cartridge it is chambered for by the proof house if has been rebarrelled. This I understand is a legal requirement, though it is not unheard of for them to mark it incorrectly.
Re: Tikka M55 info required.
There is no question about the calibre it is definitely 6.5x55 the barrel is stamped with the calibre and proof marks.
Ok I had a better look at her to night.
I trimmed 6 cases in my Lewilson trimmer and cut the primer pockets 5 of these will be made up as dummy rounds to check the magazine and rifle functions OK. The 6th case was chucked in the lathe and drilled and tapped to fit the Stoney point cartridge overall length gauge.

That is a superb looking piece of wood, am I correct in thinking it is a short action chambered for 6,5x55 so single feed only?

The magazines

What's the maximum size you can post on the forum Adam.Any chance of making the pictures a bit bigger Dave, it is real chew on enlarging them so I can see them properly.
It feeds from the magazine that's why I tried the 5 dummy rounds only problem with that is you have to seat the bullets so they don't jam in the mag. That is a superb looking piece of wood, am I correct in thinking it is a short action chambered for 6,5x55 so single feed only?
You can also single feed I tried that and it works OK. To use the barrels full potential single feed would be the way to go.
The cartridge overall length with the Stoney point gauge measures 3.0660 at this length it is jammed in the rifling.
To function from the magazine they need to be 2.9240. For the kind of shooting I do magazine fed will probably be OK. But I will try a few single feed if I can ever access a range that makes it worthwhile. All in all I am very happy with it.
It came with a set of 30mm tikka rings. I have taken these off and fitted a pair of Tikka 1" rings.
I will probably sleep with her to night and give her a good old cuddle. :shakeshout:
