As I have said before ..............Smith & Wesson does not sell frames to distributers or dealers .

Therefore the long barrel Smiths have been at some time complete guns .

The fact that they now have 12 inch barrels and coat hangers means that someone somewhere has removed the original barrel .

So they are dodgy , very dodgy .

My understanding is as long as they are not modified sec 5 in the UK and were for example modified in the US then they are legal?

I am afraid your understanding is totally incorrect .

But dont take my word for it . Richard Wilson is on of this countries top pistolsmiths . I have known him for roughly 25 years , and he is totally honest and would not risk his good name or risk his customers haveing their guns confiscated and facing possible prosecution . This is from his website .

There has been a constant demand for a Smith & Wesson-Based revolver which is compliant with UK regulations since the ban of 1997. However, the law dictates that it is not permissible to convert any firearm which has been built as a Section 5 (firearm with less than 12” (300mm) barrel, and less than 24” (600mm) overall length) into a Section 1. As S&W had no 12” barrel models, and no plan to build one, it has not been possible until now. To build a UK-compliant revolver we needed to buy an “incomplete” firearm or a “Kit” of parts that had never been assembled.

And an update ..............Due to Smith & Wesson declining to supply the frame kits, this project will be on hold until a suitable alternative can be found.

So Richard Wilsons issue is the availability of frames for the S&W in particular.

I suppose you could replace the words "Smith & Wesson " with Glock , Sig , etc etc .

There's no issue getting hold of glock frames though.

Also it doesn't have to be a 12"rifled barell! It can use an extended 6" barell? Like most straight pull rifles

Of course there is an issue of getting Glock frames .

They dont sell them as frames or frame kits .
