Very nice indeed, how does she shoot?[/quote]

Better than I do!

I have achieved a 2 1/2" group at 100m with the Lee 185gn bullet, gas checked to .311 in front of 25.5gn of Lovex DO 60.

Looking at that lovely Finnish one brought back memories of mine........

I used to have a lovely Finnish converted Mosin with that dark woodwork - I put a repro mount and pu scope on it and turned down the bolt.

Had it up for commission sale at Gunshop Barnet - then gave it to Joe in exchange for something or other.

I really regret it now :-(

I wonder who has it now !!!!

I have a SMLE now to satisfy my occasional desire to shoot retro but if I am honest, I would have that old Finn back in a heartbeat.

Remember seeing your Mosin on Barnets stall at Bisley a few years ago. Got excited when I saw the foresight (M28 if I remember correctly). Would have bought it if it had still been standard.

G98's - graceful ladies with impeccable manners

The G's are a MUCH nicer experience for a day on the range...as in, you could fire one all day without needing therapy at the end of it; some rifles, five rounds will put you off until you forget that you should know better & try the sodding thing again

My G98 I find awful to shoot, with s&b factory ammo it kicks like a mule and shoots around 10" high at 100m. I definitely get more pleasure from ownership than use! I know they are sighted at 400m, I could get a taller foresight but as it's beautifully original I don't want to bugger about with it. I might try it with the bayonet on!
It was working when i left it...........

I love shooting mine i find it much smoother than my Lee Enfiled for example.
Shoots to point of aim haven't taken it past 100M yet but seems to have the replacement blade.

Despite being yet to own a Mauser (unless you include my 1903A4), the yanks had to pay for infringement of patent, so they do!

I have been fortunate in shooting virtually all of the German derivatives, except the shoulder smashing K98 alpine carbine, the G98 was my favourite of the bunch to shoot, I will buy one at some point.

Rare old beast the G33/40. Arundal's have one for sale currently, not cheap, mind you, but given the limited production, and survival rate, probably something of a bargain.
I'd love one :good:
