Afore going on patrol in downtown Nastyland, we used to be given a briefing on the Rules of Engagement by a Major from the Army Legal Service. After the usual explanation of the different rules applying in Open Warfare and Peacekeeping (the phase we were officially in, though the ganiwogs still considered it to be OW), he would conclude with the pertinent though wholly unofficial advice we knew as The Rule of 6 and 12:
"If in doubt as to whether you are permitted to defend yourselves, or the lives of those around you, remember that is better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6"

We have a big all black germanshepherd dog and cctv around our house. One day he started growling and showing his teeth and looked really fierce. There was nothing on the screen and we have a long drive. After a minute a man was walking towards the house and the dog was going crackers by now, I sent Margaret to the door with the dog and when she opened it, it was all she could do to restrain the dog.
As the man was hurrrying back up the drive he called over " have you got any scrap metal". The dog is normally very passive but he recognised evil.

Good post,
..........and if I can find the article, "in the USA a 59 year old homeowner shot and killed a 14 year old home invader!"
A young woman shot and killed a serial rapist who had come back for seconds.
I know where I'd rather be.
Home invasions are on the up but copiousassgas Cameron and his mealy mouthed promises about defending ourselves will come to nothing.
Only when there is a good chance of being shot will the message get through to those vermin. Police are useless (no disrespect) against such matters, the only and best first responder is the victim.
