Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
This long range .22 intrigues me. Best drag the BSA Mk3 out I guess.

That'd do the job very nicelyCharlie Muggins wrote:Best drag the BSA Mk3 out I guess.

It was a joke...but a very crass one that I'm not explaining on the open forum...try the urban dictionarySim G wrote:Dougan wrote: And Sim G; while shooting can be very exciting...'semi's' are never appropriate razz
Mmmmm.....

That may be true of a small bore (Not sure why it woudl be) but the usual ROT with our rifles (FTR) is you look at about 30fps per extra inch up to about 30"Dave 101 wrote:No . max velocity is reached within appx 14" , the only reason for long barrels on a TR is to achieve a longer sight base , re aperture sights , to maximise on accuracy , you can even find barrel extensions to increase the sight base even further . In fact velocity is reduced due to increased friction on the bullet of long barrels .Demonic69 wrote:I'm by no means an expert, but wouldn't a longer barrel contain the expanding gases for longer, allowing them to push on the bullet for longer, increasing velocity?Graham M wrote: A lonbarrelel will do absolutely nothing for velocity other than lowepush slightly.
I fully expect to be wrong though :-)

Scoped, so sight base is irellavent

Entry forms for the next meeting on the 27th of April are now on the NRA web site
Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
I've just looked at the new match conditions - http://www.nra.org.uk/common/asp/Calend ... RA&id=3372 - There is now a separate class for 'iron' sights...much better for the TR and classic shooters...
Even if you have no intention of trying the discipline, if you shoot .22 the elevation and windage tables for 500 yards are well worth a look tongueout

Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
I'm very tempted to try this! Must see if I can convince my home club to let me borrow a club .22 TR for the day.
Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
If you haven't got much time to set up and zero, you could just shoot the morning at 100, 200 and 300 yards (you'd probably need sight raising blocks for further out if you're using apertures)
I've worked out that if I zero my scope at 100 then I won't be able to get elevation beyond 300 - so for 400 and 500 I'll have to back the magnification off and use the lines below the cross-hair to aim...how far to back off, or which line to use I'm not sure...so I'm glad you get 5 sighters!
