Good point Gaz. If IPSC are to seriously consider the NRAs proposal about taking over management of the discipline then I'm pretty sure that they would have to prove to the IPSC that they will promote and expand its appeal and that means Nationwide as IPSC has never been just about. Bisley.

And that takes me straight back to what Andrew Mercer said they wanted to deliver.

I am not aware that the BASC crew have ever done anything for target shooters. The NRA has always avoided confrontation over legislative issues, seeing public arguement with the government as a recipe for loosing: I am aware that a lot went on behind the visible frontage.

What you say the NRA haven't done is exactly what BASC HAVE done, for the benefit of ALL shooters! While the shooting lobbys response to the Cumbrian shootings was a joint affair behind closed doors, it was BASC sticking its neck out on tv/radio etc defending ALL of us.

I should point out that 99% of my shooting is target shooting and i'm a member of BASC (As well as other organisations)

Just read the NRA v UKPSA debate on F4i (not a forum I'm a member of). Putting aside the mad accusations of gross misconduct/worshipping false gods/failing to slaughter one's firstborn, it looks to me like the NRA are stepping in to take over management of a discipline that was being run into the floor by a power-addicted clique.

No bad thing.

You're not really going to get an unbiased account from a membership which was basically formed because they didn't like how the UKPSA (or rather certain members of the council - the 'power mad clique' :lol: ) ran things though are you?! :cool2:

I'm not here to defend the UKPSA, as i've already said i don't care what acronym is on the top of my competition forms, however i have grave misgivings about this intended hostile takeover for reasons several people have already outlined here.

I'll wait with baited breath to see the 'miracle' proposal and seemingly complete U-turn by the NRA when it comes to practical shooting in February when its had its cloak removed. Hopefully it won't also have a dagger hidden under it :roll:

I haven't been told anything by anyone (which is part of the problem), my opinions are formed through my experience and what i've read on both forums, once you finally wade through all of the daft name calling, on BOTH sides i'd hasten to add :roll:

I recently made some not nice comments about the nra, after re thinking, I appreciate that there are those past and present staff members who do work hard to deliver a better shooting world, Neil Francis especially, and if anyone was upset by my posts then you have my apologies...In future I will keep my opinions on the nra to a constructive form only.....

Maybe the IPSC invited other organisations to apply to become the GB representative because they want to look at alternatives? Who knows? All we know at the moment is that the NRA have put in an application and certain members of the UKPSA seem to feel very threatened by that piece of information.

if the UKPSA were in really great shape and doing a marvelous job of representing the IPSC, there is no reason why anyone would feel threatened or view the application as "hostile". Instead, they would just shrug it off and get on with the job in hand.
