Sadly the 1000m/sec is a symptom of people who control the MoD and choose to use metres and joules tesnews

So a recap

S Class - 'Sporting Class'

Maximum MV of 1000msec/3280fps to remain MoD range legal.
Distances to be shot 3/4/5/600metres or yards
Maximum 'scope magnification of 14x
Maximum weight of 6,8Kg's/15Lbs including 'scope, attached bipod.
Harris 'type' bipods only - these can be modified to include different feet and etc.
Maximum barrel length 26"/660mm


A suggestion:
Given the max MV effectively restricts the Predator Class to just 22 Centre Fire, I suggest that the differences between the Predator and Hunter Classes be changed slightly.

Suggested Changes - Predator Class
Max weight 5kg/11lb (Total)
Max barrel length 24"/610mm (not including any detachable muzzle device)
22 Centre Fire only

I think given that it is only out to 600 - do we need 2 separate classes? would S class not just suffice - I can then shoot the 308 and 223 in the same class!! - neither are ideal - but both will be fun!!!

Good question, the .223 could give quite an advantage over the bigger stuff on a nice day at 600. Also I still believe the 15lb limit is too high eventually.

Given the MV limitations, I don't think two classes are necessary (even if I like the names ) but the changes I was proposing were to have at least one class a bit closer to Ovenpaa's original idea.

I suggest just running it as a single class and see what happens. There might be a clear difference how the various rifles and calibres perform, there might not be.

If I can get hold of some targets I'll might be able give it a go in August (dependant on the program) at Cawdor. Don't expect earth shattering scores. :lol:

My .308 will def' be in the spirit of it! - it cost nothing!! - is a rather aged, PH 1100, with a Harris Bi-pod and a Nikon 4-14 scope (thanks to the change in scope mag') - that is it - nothing else.

I propose to shoot the remi .223 with a 19" barrel too - should be interesting squeezing it out to 600.
