I also doubt you'll sell it.

Buy it, bang it and sell it on if you don't like it (or it doesn't suit your needs). I doubt you'll lose much second hand.

I've just been advised that if you replace the .223 LMT LM223SS bolt/barrel and mag with a dedicated .22 bolt/barrel and mag it will turn a .223 straight pull rifle in to a .22 semi-auto rifle, this is an absolute result. I assumed semi-auto wouldn't be possible in a .22 conversion... So I can have the .223 rifle I want with a .22 conversion kit that doesn't rely on either a .223 barrel (constant cleaning and 2 MOA(!) @ 25 yards) or replacing the M4 upper for an extra £650. So...
Lewis Machine Tools (LMT LM223 SS) - £1,700.00
.22 conversion kit (inc new barrel/bolt/mag) - £ 400.00
At £2,100 for both a .223 and .22 with excellent accuracy for a military style rifle and shared optics, I think this is a really good deal. Any thoughts?
HALODIN wrote:Last night I had a bit of a revelation, Something I do want in an AR platform is semi-auto, clearly I can't get this in either the LMT LM233SS or the Lantac even with a .22 conversion. It's a shame they can't limit semi-auto if there's a .223 bolt in the rifle, as this would be the perfect solution for me.
So as of just this second.... I am chasing the following first and second rifles:
1 x .22 semi-auto Spike's Tactical with CMMG mag(s)
1 x .223 AICS Remington 700 + 26 inch barrel

Thats about the same price as the custom cmmg .22 and the .223 upper ive been looking into with lantac, obviously im not sure on the spec of the upper, but will look into this when i collect the cmmg, suppose nwcp is round about the same, but life time warranty on parts bought as long as i own, seals it for me

In reference to the Mrs and your allowance- she isn't allowed in your cabinet by law so who knows what you have in thereHALODIN wrote:Yeh I think it's a no brainer as well, it's kinda hard to see a problem with it. A spare upper would be a smoother costlier solution, but if you're going to that much trouble you may as well have 2 rifles, the upper and the scope seem to be the more expensive components. I don't mind re-zero'ing in the scope as it just gives me an excuse to rattle a few more rounds down the range and it technically means I get 3 (or 2.5) rifles in the gun safe instead of the 2 agreed with Mrs HALODIN...
Perhaps an Enfield .303 would compliment the .22/.223 LMT?
JS569 wrote:For 400 smackers you get a .22, then I think it is a no brainer. You get used to the same platform thus increasing your comfort with the set up and you tick all the boxes. Hell if I could do that with my AR (need to check but pretty sure I can) I would be tempted! The shared optics would require re-zeroing after each change of the barrel etc. Would a spare upper with barrel and optic not be a smoother solution in regards to this?
