Doesn't surprise me, its usually the case that the people who actually have to administer a change in legislation/policy are the last ones to be told!

Re: 6.5mm ban?
Afternoon
Just received an Email from landmarc/MOD containing the new/revised Standing Orders for the catterick ranges, including battle Hill.
In the standing orders for each range the wording, in RED type, "Civilian 6.5mm ammo is NOT to be fired".
There you have it. Signed, sealed & delivered. All civilian 6.5mm ammo banned.(i've never had any "civilian" 6.5mm ammo. Is it a new supplier !!!. Flippant I know).

Re: 6.5cm ban?
So, does that mean that military 6.5mm calibres are allowed? 6.5x50 Arisaka, 6.5x52 Carcano, 6.5x53, 6.5x54 Mannlicher, 6.5x55 Swedish, 6.5x58 Vergueiro and some other 6.5mm are all military calibres, not civilian. Or does it mean that any 6.5mm ammunition fired by a civilian is banned?

Re: 6.5mm ban?
The new range orders clearly state
"Civilian 6.5mm ammo is NOT to be fired".
There is no differential on calibres. A simple complete ban on firing 6.5mm ammo on MOD ranges.

Re: 6.5cm ban?
My question is what is meant by civilian 6.5mm ammo. If someone turned up with, say, military surplus 6.5x55 Swedish ammunition, that is not civilian 6.5mm ammunition, it is military ammunition. It may be possessed and fired by a civilian but is still military issue ammunition. I would not want to be the one to be a test case, but the order is unclear. If they want to ban all 6.5mm ammunition fired by civilians, they should say that. Something like "no 6.5mm ammunition of any type is to be fired on this range".

Re: 6.5mm ban?
As stated these are Range Orders. Therefore anyone using the range MUST comply with these orders.
The military do not want any restrictions placed on them regarding calibre, irrespective of the recent info explaining 6.5mm exceeds the safety templates of the Catterick ranges..
If the military wish to shoot a "banned" calibre then they will seek & get any required waver of range orders. Not so for Civilian shooters.
Restrictions & bans are only meant for Civilian shooting clubs. Civilian rifle clubs are priority 17, or thereabouts, when it comes to range use priorities.
Hence the word "civilian 6.5mm ammo" in the range orders.

Re: 6.5cm ban?
Except as in my case I have disposed of all my full bore rifles except for a Ruger precision in 6.5 Creedmoor that is now worthless and of no use to me and a Tikka M55 re barreled in 6.5x55 Swedish that is also no longer any use to me as well as all the re loading components etc. So I have no reason to ever visit a MOd range ever again. Catterick is my local full bore range complex.
