I somehow forced myself to visit the range today, it was a case of stay at home with 5 year old daughters friend visiting for the afternoon or go out in the cold and rain. I chose the latter.

I took my 9mm and put 100 rounds through it, only one miss feed, the very last round and that was in a 32 round mag.

I got talking to a guy called Phil who had a CMMG purchased from LanTac, and he was good enough to let me put 20 rounds through it.
I have to say that of all the .22 AR clones that I have seen this was the best by far, but you could argue that this is not a AR Clone it is an AR in .22lr.
The build was spot on and it felt good in my hands. I particularly liked the option of swapping out the upper with a .223 to help keep costs down.

Should anyone be thinking of getting a .22lr in a AR style I would strongly recommend that you handle one of these before buying anything else. They may be more costly than some of the plastic fantastic models out there but I have a feeling that they will keep there value much better - should you ever want to sell it.

I concur. The only 22 AR option in my mind. If you think the CMMG feels good, you wanna get your mits on a Lantac Raven.

Great rifles, I would second that, there is a big quality difference between CMMG and Spikes, compared to most others...cost more...yes...but you get what you pay for guys!

Anyone intending to buy a "black rifle" should, if possible, handle and shoot a CMMG before they decide were to spend their hard earned money

Doesn't the CMMG come with a plastic buffer tube? Not a huge issue if so, but for the money...

I've ordered a Spike's Tactical but haven't handled either so can't comment on their quality. Both get great reviews though.

CMMG Bolt but dedicated upper so no collar on barrel, VLTOR VIS Mid Length Railed Upper Receiver very rare in UK.

I was trying to be neutral...but I have a Spikes, fantastic build quality, very happy indeed...highly recommended.

As far as I can see, there isn't much between these splendid rifles, same design bolt (Well looks the same to me), both great quality US designs

To be honest HunterVixen, I believe and AR15 platform in .22lr is basically the same, the barrel might be different but the lower is a lower is a lower if you know what I mean.

I have a Spikes, but if I had CMMG mags I could use the CMMG BHOA quiete happily but on my spikes but I cannot as I don't have the CMMG mags.

They are much of a muchness as I say comes down to supplier, after sales service and spares. People will say the Spikes Bolt is non standard, but if it does fail the CMMG bolt works fine with your existing Spikes Collar.

I was trying to get over how much like a dealer advert this thread was becoming.
