Hi from Wolverhampton

#1 Post by CHBMB »

Hello everyone,

Trying to get back into shooting after a little hiatus. Used to shoot Field Target Air Rifle but let it lapse due to a number of reasons, the gentleman I used to shoot with passed away (He was around 50 years older than I), then tried to go with my brother but was impossible to get him out of bed early enough so missed most of the shoot and then my previous partner wouldn't allow me the free time to go. Have missed it a great deal and fully intend to get back into it but have also started to have a think about ways I might be able to get some different shooting done possibly in the evenings at a club.

The only thing is I'm not particularly competitive, even with FT I never handed my card in, it was more of a relaxation thing for me, used to have a plink then shoot the course, no pressure.

Had a read and something like LSR or Gallery might suit me quite well, but just as keen to just have a bit of a session with no competition, need to find a club as well, so far I've found details of Wolverhampton Rifle Club and Dudley Rifle Club, both of which are relatively close to me, so sent a couple of emails to enquire.

Already got a gun cabinet for my non-FAC air rifles although it would need bolting in place and quite like the idea of applying for a coterminous FAC/SGC to allow a breadth of shooting.

Seemed like a friendly place here to get some advice so here I am.

Might as well admit it from the go-get, I'm not a particularly good shot and my eyes are a bit wonky, I'm right handed and left eye dominant! At least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Thanks for reading

Thanks,

Those are some amazing Lee Enfields on your website, always makes me think of my Grandad as that's what he lugged around in WW2 and all the tales he told me, the best of which when I asked him if he ever shot anyone.... "I don't know, I always used to close my eyes!". He was a pacifist I think, he never would raise his voice or get angry, but clearly not the best soldier in the war! Although he did get selected for sniper training and subsequently kicked off as he was also right handed and left eye dominant and somehow managed to get his head over to look down the scope with his left eye I think, wish he was still alive so I could ask him some more about it. He did say that he didn't really fancy it anyway as they spent an awful lot of time teaching them how to sneak in to places, hide up trees, identify German/Italian rank markings so they could pick out the highest ranking targets, but no time teaching how to get themselves back out again to their own front line.

Does make you realise that they're not just guns but little pieces of history...

My Grandfather was part the reason why I went for my first full bore rifle, the SMLE.

Hi and welcome, get yourself in a club a years time you'll be on here with a post about your first FAC purchase :goodjob:

As for Lee Enfields everyone should have at least shot one if not owned one to be classed as British :flag13:
