62 MOA?

I was informed by a kind shooter on 300yds Century that he needed 62 MOA for his 0.22" Anschutz Match 54 to reach the bull of a std NRA target from that distance. Impressed! & so I would like to have a go too, but what is a good initial sight setting on a std Anschutz small bore rear sight?

They have no real zero & each of mine are different. I could fit a spare Clarke ladder rear-sight i have to it but don't want to drill & tap my 22 action quite yet....

Does anybody know what 62 MOA equals in '0.00mm' on the rear sight? then I can fit some blocks & wind up to it & get hopefully close? or does anybody have a calibrated Zero elevation diagram suitable for 22 that I can use at say 25yds or 50m to work my fall of shot up to it?

Apparently he shoots 22 at 500yds! & quite successfully too...... it would be a cheap training method to intro full bore for our Scout shooters too.

Might dust off an old Trigonometry book later if i can find it .........But possibly somebody has already done this & worked it out? any????

1 inch @100 yds = 1moa (i think) so if your sights are 1 yd apart (36") then 62/100th of an inch up on your rear sight to get there ?

I'm sure an expert will come on and do the finer corrections but i rekon that should get you near?

Not sure on his drop charts. Mine using standard velocity 40grs @1070fps gives me 33.5 moa for 300yds

I use a 25yd zero. A 50 zero would only after it by about 5moa at 300

It takes about 1 second though to do 300 yds and 2 seconds to do 500 massive window for wind error even in a light breeze.

There have been several articles on long range .22 in recent NRA journals. Richard Kenchington is one of the proponents - I remember him asking me if he could shoot in one of our 300 yard club competitions using his .22. He suggests that shooting .22 at longer distances compares to the wind challenges of Match Rifle at 1200 yards. Links to the articles are below.

As for the trig, it simplifies to:

(31 x [sight radius in inches]) / 1800

which gives the answer in inches. It assumes 'rifle' minutes (1 inch at 100 yards).

like shooting my 300rum with 208 amax at 1760 yds i would imagine but without having to drive to welsh wales!

This just reinforces how dangerous and taken for granted .22lr is!

Thanks for replies it seems its about 15mm & that worked.

I also managed to work out my 25-50m-100yd settings as have never done that on account of having 3 different rearsights!

I also had fun with sights at a Scout training shoot where on one side of my scope I had a lad with my old BSA Century (1/4MoA CW Up/R) & on my left another lad with a Match 54 (1/6MOA ACW Up/R) so was interchainging those nicely & advusting them in to the bull with ease (CW U/R is way easier to think in settings vs clicks!) ...... till my daughter rocked up with a LH Match 54 & I wound her off target! as its sights are 1/6MoA Up but darned CW Right!? sign01 Duh!

It seems her LH Barnard is the same? **** is it that difficult to put a Lh thread in a sight?

Most LH sights are identical to RH equivalents. They just put the knob on the other end of the shaft. Just imagine you are looking at it from the side you usually do.

Alternatively, get the shooter to put a socking great double arrow on their hat, and the letter L and R at the appropriate ends.

Owning a Trakker sight, an AGR sight and a Unique LH sight and the above applies to all three.
