Paddy Ashdown looks at this operation. A tale that most of us know, because of it's more common film) name as 'The Cockle shell hero's.' A tale of heroism and unknown to me until I saw this programme a monumental cock up, In so far as the SOE were also tasked with destroying the ships in the harbour at the port of Bordeaux. And were probably better placed to carry out a more effective attack.
Paddy Ashdown makes a good job of telling this story.. Well Worth a watch..

Very brave men, my great uncle who joined the Royal Marines before the war was an instructor when these guys were being trained for this mission.
