Just been doing some more reading on getting COL and lands gap sorted, and think a purchase of a comparator may be a good idea.

What are my options and is this a good idea or is there another way of doing it?

just buy a comparator mate, it makes life a lot easier and your OAL measurements accurate.

I got mine from reloading solutions

If you have the Stony Point holder I can soon make you a comparator insert for whatever calibre you need, I have made a few for myself :D

What is the comparator used for measuring.
I have one I use for COL but I dont think I have ever used a comparator.
I could do with some extra cases for different calibers will have to check out there web site see if they do them.

The comparator gives you a more accurate method of measuring finished rounds. The meplat can be damaged on a bullet and give you variances of up to ten thou so using a comparator gives you a more accurate reference point as it picks up off the ogive.

You still need to determine your OAL using whatever method you prefer but after that you measure with the comparator.
