8mm neck die

This is a interesting one I was neck sizing some 8mm cases I had sized about ten cases with no problem these cases have been re loaded before so I knew they were not berdan primed so when I felt a bit of resistance I just exerted a bit more force and this was the result the de capping pin snapped off.
Only thing I can think of is maybe the button had loosened and the decapping pin was off centre.

I am taking it in to work tomorrow I will turn the end down were its snapped off and re thread it so hope fully I can fix it. Slowed me down a bit though.
I have noticed lately that neck dies etc. for milsurp stuff seem to be getting harder to get hold off. I need to take more care off my kit me thinks.

Rule 1, never force things find out why they need extra force and fix it.

Rule 2, get rid of that damned expander button! It does your cases and reloading no favours.

Time you learned how to fettle, set up and use the Lee collet dies.

I tried neck sizing with out the expander button and it works OK if you are using condom bullets.
But what I have found is that if I try to expand the necks for cast some of the case mouths buckle.
I am not against the Lee neck dies I have one or two.

????????!

What expanding die are you using?

That shouldn't happen unless the case isn't aligned with the die and the case mouth is catching on the base of the expander plug and you are forcing the ram up. Don't you feel the need to exert extra pressure when the case buckles. That is a sign to stop and check what is going on.

A bigger hammer rarely works in hand loading.

Where is the "buckling" happening?

Its at the start of sizing I dont think the cases are centering the lip of the case catches on one side and folds it back.
I have been rotating the cases by hand to try and centre the cases before expanding this seems to help.

Yep, misalignment.

Check that the expander spud inside the "M" die body hasn't unscrewed from the setting stem inside the "M" die. If so tighten it up and screw locktite if necessary.

We fixed it.
Ground the end off then silver soldered the end. Turned it down in a lathe and re cut the thread.
