Just noticed the trial they are having for a new comp.

Sounds like a sort of .22lr F-Class.

Shot at 200 / 300 / 400 yards.

Any of you shot .22lr out to these ranges ?

Would it have to be hi-velocity ammo ?

What sort of drops would you expect from a .rifle zeroed at 100 ?

I once plinked a old brno .22 bolt action at 16 inch steel gongs - distances 500 meters

4 major lessons

1. BUY good ammo - I mean good ammo - the velocity variation was very apparent.

2. Have a longs barrel you need velocity

3. Aim about 20 foot above gong

4. It is freaking additive and fun pinging steel!

The Match Conditions include drops, wind tables and Gyroscpic drift corrections!

It's closer to .22 MR (forward hand may be rested but rifle may not touch the rest, prone or supine positions etc).

Darn I have a shed project ideal for this unfortunately unfinished as yet - a old Walther rear sight rail clamp to weld to an AE clarke 1/4 moa sight base so I can fit a proper CW up & right 1/4 moa full bore sight to my Anschutz 1813 & plot fall of shot on this properly.

.22 'F Class' competitions are a great idea - If you've already got a lot of other shooting and loading going on, it's the sort of thing you can try without too much preparation and expense.

My '54' shoots very well at 100 yards, but I had mixed results at 200 when I tried last year - The info and charts given in this article are great...so I think I'll get some quality ammo and give it another go...


As an aside: There was a 'mini McQueen' (.22 at 50 yards) run at Bisley last year...after the event everyone was saying how good it was, but then I've never seen or heard of it again...are there any plans from the NRA to do it again?

Re The MiniMcQueens, I have been involved with the running of this and it is an officially sanctioned NRA event and has its own event number.
The biggest problem we have is getting range space,
It has been run for a couple of hours including lunch time on a few occasions.
Not sure how it will procede in the future.
There are now 3 complete Mini McQueen setups and there are plans to market them.

It's a shame that it's not on during the Phoenix; but then I suppose that's when range space is at a premium.

I know there's already various small bore comps run at Bisley including the Euros, but it'd be cool to have an alternative .22lr weekend with long range and mini McQueen...it's something I'd travel up for day to do.
