Hello all
Hello all I'm a 52 year old father of 3, wife and daughter have CFS (wife's worse), daughter and sons have alll got into shooting at Torbay fullbore with me, we are probationary members now and loving it, nice people good family/community atmosphere, I'm kicking myself for not getting involved and looking for a club before, I'd just heard some stories of how it's all too much bother, police always on your back type thing, then reading and joining in on the preppers site (don't think I'm a doomsday one please) the shooters there did a good job convincing me to have a go, I/We always have had an air rifle and pistol tucked away but never got thid kids (now 24/21/14) into it and because of the not going out much factor going with the disabillities never found a club, we did also get into archery, yet before we could find somewhere to go do it we have found that the bow and even the break barrel air rifle are a bit much for my daughter, it may seem odd at first but when you think about it real bullets do not require such an amount of effort, add to that the really short walk from car to range, shooting from an undercover trench, having somewhere to sit if she needs to and can appear on good days just like anyone else given that moving from car to range and trench is little different to moving around the house, litterally everything you can hope for in an activity and finally something the whole family can do together and enjoy, I'm well chuffed as they say
I'm also happy to see looking around here that generally the full bore shooters generally whilst as you would hope and expect take safety and rules/laws of shooting seriously, humanity and sense of humour remain, I like the smiley selection and should have no problen expressing myself here
Nigel (middle and used in life name in case you wondered)

Re: Hello all
Welcome TT (Many names become abbreviated very quickly on this forum!) The ability as a family to share in a pastime/hobby/sport is always good and I often shoot with my son despite him being grown up and moved away, the range is a mid point for us so where better to meet up? Shooting is a bit of a leveller in that people of all builds/genders/ages and even levels of fitmess can join together and compete on an even footing and the competition can be a friendly family thing or with the club members on either side. Equally it can be very relaxing to just get out and see how well you do on your own.
Enjoy the shooting, enjoy the forum and do not be afraid to ask questions - we all have to start learning at some point.

Re: Hello all
Hi TT, welcome. I have never found it to be a hassle in applying for certificates/renewals. I have gone through the process of applying for FAC/SGC twice from scratch (through dummies out the pram after the pistol ban and handed my pistols and certs in!!) and always found it quite straightforward.
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

I've had the best part of 52 years to get used to those initials so no worries
