Been looking for details for the PSG British Open but can't find a page. Anyone point me in the right direction?

Stolen from the UKPSA website;

We will be holding the British Open at Borderguns this year. Cost is £35, £17.50 Juniors & £25 OAP's. We will be using the Match Registration system for this match which will be up and running about 6 weeks before the match date. There will be food on site and refreshments provided by the lovely Carol as per last year!!!

Match will commence at 9.30am prompt so please be on range from 8.30am to sign in and receive your score sheets etc.

The match will consist of 12 stages, minimum of 130 rounds, birdshot (fibre wad only as working farm).

The calibration ammo will be 24 gram fibre wad birdshot.

R.O.'s package.

If you are a qualified Range Officer and would like to R.O. on either Saturday or Sunday you will beable to shoot the match for free, lunch will be provided and refreshments on the day that you R.O. We will require 8 R.O.'s for each day. This will be on a first come first served basis, so apply now to guarantee your day.

I gather that you will have to have sat and passed the UKPSA safety course?

Yes you need the safety course and competition license to compete in any comp above a level 1. There is a BSC at Borders 11/12 May if thats close to you? Theres one in Carlisle 15/16 June too

The British Open is on 13/14th July BTW

How do we go about getting the competition licence?

When you do the Basic Safety Course you are assessed for both the safety certificate and competition license. If you're safe enough you get the SC and if you're safe enough AND competent enough you get the CL

What's a Competition Licence? Is it the same as a Safe Shooter Certification as the NRA issue them for Target Shotgun and require you to have one if you want to shoot Practical Shotgun at Bisley. If its not the same why are there two?

Interesting. What do they mean by 'competent'? I'm not particularly fast at PSG, but my safety's never been an issue.

So far I've only been doing practice at my club - I've got the slot for my S1, but haven't done the official safety course yet.

UKPSA introduced competition licenses long before the MOD imposed certificates of competency on other shooters.

The competition license requires a 'competition awareness' getting one is rather more difficult than a standard COC and involves asessment under 'competition stress' conditions; moving with a loaded firearm using obstacles/props etc.

Posession of the UKPSA comp. license is (was when I was there) accepted by the NRA as a qualification for an NRA COC.

'Standard' COC will suffice for a level one competitions shot under UKPSA/IPSC rules, For higher levels the competition license is required.

As I have a Military Qualification for the "Shotgun Combat 12 Bore L128A1" (obtained only recently from a very friendly RM PWI) and can instruct and qualify Service Personnel conducting WHT and ACMTs, as well as a Safe Shooter Certification Card from my Club Chairman for Target Shotgun do I really need anything else?
