Good all round bore cleaner

#1 Post by Ben Denise »

Hi Guys

I currently shoot .22, .223 and .357, and I'm looking for a good all round cleaner for the barrel of each rifle. The .22LR's are copper washed, .223 are copper jacketed, and I use both jacketed and lead .357 "heads".

I have been reading about this C2R stuff and wondered if this would be good for each, or should I be looking at frog lube, or the other one that needs an accelerator with it (I forget the name) or something entirely different?? *confused*

Cheers,

Ben

edited to add: I think the other stuff I mentioned is called WIpe Out, but I may be wrong.

There are many opinions on the cleaning of .22LR and I must admit I tend to just shove the occasional patch through mine and make sure the chamber is kept clean. The .223 is going to leave copper over a period of time so would benefit from a good cleaning and you should see an improvement in accuracy after a thorough cleaning, I certainly do with my rifles.

I seldom shoot cast boolits/bullets however I have used C2R to clean rifles that had been used for lead and it worked very well. There are some concerns that C2R does too good a job and can upset accuracy on older rifles. Personally I am yet to see this problem.

I am currently using CR2 for my rifles that I shoot jacketed bullets in.
(Early days yet so I can not attest to its cleaning properties all the write ups are singing its praise)
For my cast boolit stuff I use edds red. I think the recipe for edds red is in the library section.
Frog lube is a lubricant I don't think its meant as a cleaner. It is excellent stuff though I use it on my bolts and actions in my milsurp rifles it slicks the action up a treat.

Yes, Wipeout is a good product. I wrote a series of comparatives including Wipeout foam which did very well. One of the series of tests can be found here:

Wipe out is excellent copper cutter - but will not touch the carbon.

All weapons you mention have copper, carbon and / lead

The C2R System will properly attack and remove copper, carbon and if left longer than 24 hours also attack the adhesion of lead to barrels.

Also have the cr2 for the bore and clp froglube liquid and the paste for the working parts, didnt think lube would be sufficient enough for the bore, obviously... but will also add, there unused at moment

I've used Tetra as a lubricator and Forrest Bore Foam. Both seem to work well. I'm especially impressed with the Tetra as a way of dealing with rust on old rifles.
