Hi from Barnsley

#1 Post by Demonic69 »

Hi Everyone
Thought I'd pop in and say hello. I'm currently just scouting out a few clubs, deciding which to join. My 2 local clubs both have their plus points, what do you guys think to joining multiple?
Then I plan to try for my FAC towards the end of the year.
I'll probably start with a couple of 22RFs, then work my way up to larger bores, money will always be tight so I don't expect to be posting pictures of my latest new bit of black :D
I do really fancy having a go with BP pistols too.
I used to shoot pretty well as an air cadet about 15 years ago, .22, .308 and the L98A1 plus whatever the Civilian RO brought in for us :D Not shot since though, apart from a quick 10 rounds at a club intro, would fancy competing if I was any good but we'll see.
Anyways, enough of my rambling, Hi

Welcome to the forum Dean, certainly consider joining two clubs if they both offer something you need and are within your shooting budget. I am a member of a couple plus shoot at Bisley so in theory I have all bases covered.

.22RF is always a good place to start and .223 gets you to 600 yards and you do not need to go for a black gun, having said that a .223 black gun with a .22 upper ticks both boxes however you could equally pick up a couple of reasonable rifles in .22 and .223 or even a .308 for less than the price of a black gun, downside is two 'scopes unless you are shooting with iron sights.

The other one to consider is .303 such as a P14 or for even cheaper shooting a Mosin Nagant carbine with milsurp. loads of fun for your money and easy enough to load for if you ever feel the urge. You could probably pick up a carbine plus 100 rounds for under GBP150/170 if you look around.

Hi Everyone!
Thanks for the info Ovenpaa, I do like the look of some of the Mosin Nagant rifles too. I would like to get into reloading at some point and I think that will progress along with my choice of round.
I love your site by the way, I have a small lathe and I'm just learning to use it so seeing the stuff you produce is amazing!

Milsurp 7,2x45R is probably the cheapest of all of the milsurp on the market, is of a reasonable quality and I doubt it will dry up any time soon. Just avoid the heavy ball as it tends to be a bit lively in the carbines. Or put a different way, it is going to hurt after a while.

Pleased to hear you like the Journal, I have so many things to add to it however I am usually struggling for time so unless I have stopped to check email/swill a quick coffee it tends to be left alone until the weekends and evenings.
