BP Revolver/Rifle Calibre choice.

#1 Post by bigfathairybiker »

Hi All,

Considering there are many different calibres for repro BP Revolvers and Rifles, excluding the fact that
the larger the calibre the more drop at distance, what are the advantages/disadvantages of the various calibres?

As the calibre has to be put on the FAC application, I'd rather get it right first time, than having to
contact them shortly after to change it.

Can't offer you much info as I'm yet to purchase a muzzle loading pistol
however .36 & .44 seem the most popular & I had no problems being granted 2 BP pistol slots with my FAC application

I've been thinking a bit more about this and have a few ideas...

1. The smaller calibres need less powder and lead so cost less to use.
2. The smaller calibres give less of a kick. ( Easier to handle, less wrist fatigue )
3. .36 and .44 very much more available selection of pistols.
4. .44 appears to be available for a large selection of both pistols and rifles ( one side lead to purchase )

Just a few thoughts...
