From smallbore to fullbore

Hi. I am a 37 year old chap from Sussex. I used to shoot smallbore for county and for country. I packed up some time ago but missed shooting terribly. I have recently joined my local fullbore club, Rustington Rifle Club. I have met some kind and very helpful people which is the main thing I missed when I quit shooting. I have also joined the NRA after completing a very interesting and enjoyable shooting assessment. I have begun reloading as I have a dear old friend who is sharing his 40years of reloading knowledge with me. I would have struggled otherwise as I was used to buying lapua dominator .22 in bulk only! I look forward to chatting to you all and maybe even meeting a few of you at shoots. I am waiting for my FAC at which point I will be looking for a left hooker in .308 or possibly a straight pull ambi in .223.. eventually I aim to have both. The budget will allow only one for now.. Then I am aiming to compete as I love the buzz of competition and making new friends/gaining knowledge.
Paul

Hi Paul
Remember that the NRA has some .308 TRs in true LH (TR or scoped) and has a fleet of 12 ambi straight-pull .223s with two scope options all for hire at a price that you wouldn't pay yourself by the hour to clean.

Fantastic. I have booked to shoot with the NRA club on the 16th at the short siberia range. I requested to hire a rifle in either if they had availability. Fingers crossed. I thought I would dislike the AR type rifles but I must say I found the SGC model I was lent an absolute joy to shoot for a left hander. I was impressed with it's accuracy and even recoil. It was also great fun which is an important aspect of all sports and hobbies.

& ...or join a club that attends Bisley that has LH kit – e.g. we have 3 LH jackets 2 LH 22's & are building a LH P14 but are in deepest darkest N Herts. Welwyn Phoenix has a very good LH Paramount 308 that they only use at Bisley.
That way you can get used to a particular rifle too. If your competitively minded then 308 TR is the thing to get, but as an XSBR myself don’t adopt the same shooting position lower it ….. a lot!
welcome t forum.
