Was looking at one of these for years,it seems now (however played up by the manufacturers it may be) that the quality is far superior to earlier models...has anyone got one or had one, what was it like? As good as they say? Better? Or worse? Is it real easy or real hard to assemble...thoughts please....

I had one of the original Charter Arms AR7's. It was what it was. Shot down behind enemy lines, on our own and 200 clicks from friendlies, then perhaps it would be your most precious possession. However, on the range and a little bit of bunny bashing it was a most frustrating bit of kit! It was unreliable and inaccurate. But, it always "drew a crowd"!
Assembly and disassembly was a breeze. Scew barrel on one end of the receiver and the stock on the other.
One thing it dud well was float! Asaaembled or stored in the stock it bobbed there in the water..
Quality wise, it wouldn't take much to improve it.
Would I have another? In a heart beat!! Just too damn cool not to have! But it is, what it is....

I remember being impressed by it when I first saw it on an episode of the BBC series The Gun.
However when I came to shoot one its lack of 50 yrd bunny accuracy disappointed, had it under the seat in the Austin Champ for a couple of years "just in case". Still it was great fun assembling and disassembling and chucking in the loch. I seem to remember giving it away.
Wasn't the originals made by Armalite? I'm sure mine was.
If it would hit something then I'd have another, looks like Henry are doing them now

Yes they were. I meant "one of the first" Charter Arms as opposed to first AR7's. My bad. It had a three digit serial number. Still s*** though....

A friend has an original Armalite AR7 and loves it, he also tells me it is incredibly rare in the UK. He gets quite reasonable results at 25 yards with it.

I have a feeling Magtech did such a thing for sub GBP100 a while ago however I cannot find any information on it now.

I bought one on a whim a couple of years ago ( I seem to have lots of whims ) sold it within a couple of months, as SimG said if you behind enemy lines fine as a curiosity fine but as a reliable reasonably accurate range rifle nahhh.
If your looking for a takedown .22 rifle personally I would go for the new Ruger 10/22

They should be around the £300 mark here.
