The IHAMs

#1 Post by Dougan »

Having done the Trafalgar a few times, I attended the Imperial Historic Arms Meeting for the first time today...it's pretty much the same as the Trafalgar but in the summer.

Overall I shot well (for me that is), but found a new excuse for the flyers and fumbled loads...the heat! (I'm still sweating like a farm animal )...not often you get to use that excuse in the UK! razz

Shot precision with both the Smellie and Ze Mauser, and scored the same with both (usually do a little better with the M96) - then single snaps with both (can't beat the SMLE for that  ) - then double snaps and rapid with the SMLE...thankfully after the double snaps the RCO let me skip a few details to let the rifle cool down a bit; as it was getting quite warm (the action and chamber were very hot!)...my poor baby; I did consider fanning her, but didn't want folk to think I was mad.

The only disappointment of the day was the attendance - I just don't understand why more people don't go...they are great shoots, where you can really put your SOWRs through their paces on some interesting courses of fire that are well organised, marked and scored...

...If anyone has considered attending but isn't sure what to expect, they are well worth the effort - The meetings (Trafalgar and IHAMs) are very relaxed, with a full range of shooting standards (so no big deal if you have a bad detail), the other shooters are a friendly bunch (with lots of shooting knowledge), and the RCOs are very friendly, patient and helpful...they're not there to haul you over the coals for the slightest thing; but will willingly help if you don't know what to do.

These meeting need better attendance...or they could fade away.... :bad:
