Just been given a 1000 .303 cast bullets, I weighed a slack handful individually and the average weight of each bullet is 192 Grns. Have any of you folks got a half decent load for this weight bullet in .303? Can't say I have ever had much to do with cast bullets in the past.

Hi Blu.

Need a tad more information there mate.

What velocities are you wanting to shoot at?

What rifle and what are its the bore and groove diameters?

Whats the diameter of the boolits?

How are they lubed?

Are they gas check or plain based?

If they are gas check is the check fitted?

Do you know the mould they came from?

All necessary conditions for cast boolit shooting being met especially good boolit fit then the standard load for velocities around 16-1700FPS is 18-19 gns VV N110, 22-24 gns VVN120, 18-20 gns AA5744 or Ed Harris's classic load of 16gns Hercules/Alliant 2400.

If you really want top accuracy from rifles then cast boolits are the only way to go.

I don't think that these jacketed/condom bullets will catch on personally.

Looks like an answer looking for a problem.

Seems to me it was another sales ploy to disempower shooters to the benefit of bullet smiths pockets.

You spend lots of money on a nice historic/sporting/target or a tight toleranced bespoke rifle thrashing out its speccy with the barrel/gunmaker. Spend hours measuring and fitting cases, testing and loading powder applying you own rigorous QC and then the most important element to accuracy, the Boolit/Bullet you just give up all control and influence over, leaving it to some one else to make for you it the hope that it fits.

Makes it look all a tad futile to me.

Dromia, I have the choice of a few rifle to shoot them from. I'll probably take a couple out with different loads and see how they shoot in different rifles.

Unique seems to be erratic unless you use a kapok or similar filler. 23grn of 4198 or Relaoder 7 is a good load. If you use a gas check, you can go higher---we need to stay under about 2100'/sec on our range. Most people buy jacketed bullets--I think they are crazy.
