Has anyone had a feed problem with Sig522 and cured it?

I bought one because it had a "feed anything" reputation, but mine jams 5 or 6 times a mag. Specifically the bullet seems to snag on the bottom of the barrel and then the bolt pushes the case bending the lead. Clearly the base of the case isn't being picked up by the bolt properly.

The importer slightly beveled the edge of the chamber but that had no effect.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Have you tried different ammo?
Does it also jam with the other makes that you tried?

Have the magazine feedlips been altered/damaged?

Zimmer, I have a 522 and to be honest mate I can't say I've had any problems with it feeding wise, it's never jammed on me. Is there any way you can get a hold of another magazine and trying that? Also even though mine will eat through any make of ammo I have found both Winchesters triple 3 and triple 5 to be the most accurate ammo, it just loves the stuff.

Could well be a mag prob. Have you noticed a pattern of incident at a specific spring tension ? If you have only have access to one mag, you could tried to load with regular partial charge and see when the PB occur .

You can try polishing the feed ramp and also try adding about 3/4 to an inch of additional spring to the mag spring (just coil it together so you can easily unwind it if you choose to) to create a little more tension. It might reduce your total mag capacity slightly but can result in a cleaner feed.

Not tried the Winchester ammo, pretty much everything I tried jams, although the lighter faster stuff seems better, someone at the range let me use some Remington Yellow Jacket Hyper Velocity Hollow point ammo (33g/1500fps) and those did not jam. I'll try and get hold of some Winchester and let you know how I get on.

I have bought three mags, all SIG polycarb. All mags behave the same, if I fill the mags, they seem to jam on loading the first round but after that is random, although sometimes they jam in bunches. Partial loads, 5,10 etc seem to make no difference. Mag lips and followers are all in good condition. I have dismantled all mags, cleaned and polished insides and the spring. I have also taped the mags so that they are a solid fit, all without effect. I was thinking of buying a Black Dog machined mag but I was sort of reluctant to chuck good money away on a hope!

Feed ramp finish is not too bad, bullet gets partially into the chamber but is at too steep an angle to slide any further. Increasing the mag spring tension is one thing I have not tried. I thought that stuffing the mag full would have that effect but your suggestion has the advantage of reducing the friction effect of the full mag.

I'll have a play with the mags and try the Winchester ammo, if I can find some and let you know how I get on.

What ammo are you generally using?

Zimmer, this is a known issue with a specific batch of 522s. Garlands (the importers) know all about it and you need to speak to your RFD who will organise a replacement for you via Garlands.

I tried 5 different mags and 5 different types of ammo before mine went back to be replaced. Then as (bad) luck would have it, they sent me another from the same batch and it had to go back too. They sent me a new rifle from a new batch and it's been perfect. Not a single problem.

Don't muck around any more, your rifle's faulty, just get them to replace it.

It describes filing a sharp edge off the feed ramp and seems to cure the feed problem.
