Savage are making rifles for it.

Nope. If I had nothing else it would work nicely I think, but I blat all small animals with a .222.

I was talking to a customer about this quite recently and it was the ammo cost and availability that was putting him off.

I can I imagine. HMR is bad enough, I expect this is worse. the 222 eats 40gr Blitzkings but with prvi brass, s and b primers and imr4198 (and soon n130). and it still shoots little bug holes, all the while costing about rimfire money. I would not go back to rimfire now, given the costs.

Its the treble two I use too, a fantastic round.

But I wasn't asking to compare the .17WSM to just wondering if anyone had had a play with one yet out of curiosity.

Thought perhaps one of our colonial cousins might have.

I had a look at some articles (from the USA) recently and the main question seemed to be, was it any better than the .17 Hornet? Those that said yes, did so because it was cheaper than the .17 Hornet and those that said no, did so because you can't reload it.

Personally, it doesn't interest me - if I wanted a .17 cal, I'd go for the 17 HM2 or .17 Fireball (if I wanted a centre fire, or maybe a .17 Rem). Also. I think a 20 cal version would've have been better or at least more interesting.

17 Fireball I like - still quick but very light on powder usage. The rimfire option would be good if the ammo was cheap.
