Sharing a rifle

Possibly a question from left field but.....
Is it feasible to share a competition rifle (either TR or F class)?
A bit of background, I'm looking at getting back in to competitive shooting and my best mate is also wanting to get involved. What we were thinking was to share a rifle initially, both to help minimise costs and also in case either one of decided it wasn't for them and gave up. If we both found ourselves doing it in 18mnths time then we'd look for to have one each.
Now back when I used to shoot in the cadets I know we certainly shared rifles, and I think some even shared during the Imperial (I seem to remember being able to request different squaddings?!). But not sure how practical/possible it is some 14yrs on.
Thanks in advance
James

For the Imperial, exactly that process applies. indicate that you are sharing firearms and ask for separate squadding.
But remember, if you make it to any of the Second Stages everyone shoots on the same detail, so you will then need one rifle each.

It is feasible but not ideal especially as the chosen disciplines do require reasonably specialist kit.
The problem you will have is that what suits one will most likely not suit another as regards fit and set up of the rifle and sights, so when you change users the rifle will need to be reset to suit who ever is shooting it and this depending on the changes could involve rezeroing not something you can do in the middle of a comp, so not something I would recommend. Better to join a club with their own club rifles or with people who would be willing to let you have a go and shoot them 'till you find out what you like and whether you want to stick with that type of shooting.
Trying to get a rifle you can share and putting money after it is likely to leave both of you less than satisfied with the purchase.
I do know of people who have used other peoples kit with success but it was more a case of necessity than choice, however if that is your only route then go for it.

Thanks both, food for thought.
The suggestion of a club is a good one, although not sure if there are many fullbore clubs local to us.
Does the NRA still hire rifles?

Yes the NRA still hires out rifles however they are just that, hire rifles so subject to a less than ideal life.

I believe that they do and there is the NRA shooting club as well which NRA members can join, If getting to Bisley regularly is a option for you then joining them is worth considering.
Karen and or IainWR will no doubt give you chapter and verse on it.

I wouldn't try to share a target rifle during the Imperial, unless you're reasonably confident that at least one of you won't get into the second stages of any matches! But as a means of easing yourself back into the game, it's a great idea.
