Cawdor 17/11/13

Today was Strathpeffer's last shoot at Cawdor for this year and it was a great, albeit, chilly day.
I was in need of some relaxing recoil therapy after my first week of being out on placement as a Student Nurse, so I decided the Steyr and the 257 would do the trick.
After fixing the problems with scope base, last month, I needed to confirm that the 257 was indeed good to go. My plan was to check the zero and then confirm the drops at varying distances. So I checked the zero at 200m and all was good
During the day I took it back the 300 and 400m and only needed to make a few tweaks to get in centre of the target - in fact my third shot at 300m hit the balloon someone had kindly stuck to the middle of the Fig 11. :shakeshout:
The drops put the velocity in the region of 3300fps with the 75gn bullets - still need to confirm with a chrono, but a good start.
After complaining about the sights of the Steyr in another thread, it decided to prove me wrong. At 200 it was shooting a little high but easy to compensate for. After warming the barrel I switched to a Fig 11 at 100m for 10 rounds rapid (which is always fun) and got 7 on target - which I was more than happy with.
Later on there was a spare lane so I took her out again for some more shoulder thumping fun. After a few more clips I offered the other members a go - one accepted - after 5 rounds was very happy but with a much tenderer shoulder.
And he is with the beast in question! clapclap
And I also dropped off the S-Class Shield for Strathpeffer's AGM next week - which I'll unfortunately miss.
