Section 2
Hi,
I am not trying to-do anything illegal but would like some guidance on the following.
It seems that from 2010 the proof houses were given new rules on crimping the magazine tubes being....
- They must have a continuous crimp.
- The end of the tube has a steel rod welded inside.
- The tube is welded/pinned to the receiver.
So, my question is what happens if the magazine spring ever breaks. How the hell would you get it out and further doesn't this work that the proof houses do invalidate your shotgun warranty ?
I am assuming you would need to send it away for expensive work rather than fixing it yourself ?
Thanks for any help
Mark

Re: Section 2
Interesting... but in a bad way Might be worth bringing to the attention of your shooting organisation

Re: Section 2
The first part is for S2 shotgun specifications, the latter part is for deactivations

Misleading title!
Well I'm certainly hoping my 2+1 isn't welded/pinned to the receiver. I'll be 'upgrading' it in due course.

It will all depend on make/modleSevenSixTwo wrote:Misleading title!

None of my S.2 will allow me to remove the magazine tube....and one of them being a Rem 870 means that ANY mag tube work is a factory only job as the tube is brazed into the receiver and not sold as a spare part in its own right by big green.
As has been stated....always a source of some concern re. broken or damaged followers; plus not being able to fully clean the followers is annoying.
Re: Section 2
The 870 is a steel receiver I believe whereas my mossy is aluminium. Hopefully it's not pinned. I would be pi**ed.
Mind you, it'd have to go for proofing again via RFD so might as well bung it through a smith.
Will investigate this further.

Re: Section 2
It doesn't need to go for re-proofing, you simply transfer it to your FAC and then modify the mag capacity, no re-proofing required. If you were going from a Sec1 to a Sec2 then re-proofing may be required.

Yes, sorry for the title, but I just uploaded the document as it comes from the Home Office.
I was thinking of getting a Benelli Nova 2+1 with a view to increasing it to 4+1 (or more) later on when I get my FAC. Would prefer to just have the one shotgun.
However, by the looks of it, will probably cost me a lot of money given what the proof houses are going to-do to it.
And like I said originally, I don't have a clue how my warranty would stand if they butcher my magazine tube and pin/weld it to the receiver.
Maybe better waiting until I get my FAC and just buying the 4+1. But then again, looks like the Labour Party are planning on some further nasty restrictions if they get back into power. i.e. NO PUMP's or SEMI's.

Re: Section 2
As I said you don't need to involve the proof house if you're going from Sec2 to Sec1.
I have a Sec2 Benelli SuperNova, the mag tube is removable by heating and unscrewing it, simply transfer it to your FAC, remove the existing mag tube, screw in an un-crimped tube and off you go.
The ends of all my Sec1 and Sec2 shotguns (Hatsan Escort Semi, Benelli SuperNova & Remington 870 pumps) are "openable" and the spring/follower can be removed for cleaning or replacement.
