Cerrosafe wanted
Hello,
Does anyone have any Cerrosafe that they want to part with? I had some but I think it was 'borrowed' for a art lesson at my sons school
Midway have some but I am loathed to stump up £35.00!
Thanks.

Re: Cerrosafe wanted
If it is for a chamber/throat/bore/groove cast then honestly a fired case and an impact cast is far cheaper, easier and more accurate than faffing about with Cerrosafe.

Yes Adam, its for a chamber, throat, bore cast.
I have just got myself a Kropatschek that is on sec 58/2 at the moment. I was intending to do a cast and try and figure out what mould and dies I needed and whether to go down the Bertram or formed .348 route. I think it will be a gradual process to get the bits and bobs together before I can put the M18886 on ticket.

Soft lead, steel rod, netty paper a hefty hammer and you are good to go.

Re: Cerrosafe wanted
You put a paper plug in on top of the lead and it compresses when you pound the steel rod and stops the lead flowing around the end of the steel rod and jamming it in.
You will be surprised at how hard and solid the paper plug is when it comes out.

Re: Cerrosafe wanted
Ah, I knew there must be a logical reason for the paper (apart from mopping up the blood, sweat and tears!)
I shall have a rummage around in my old fishing box tonight for a suitable sized ledger weight-I know that the old ones are 100% pure lead, failing that I think I have some old .36 cal balls about.
Thanks.

Re: Cerrosafe wanted
Cerrosafe actually shrinks slightly after it has set. The most readily available totally stable material is car body filler paste. grease the chamber lightly, fill with Plastic Padding or similar, allow to set and tap out. I have used this method for 30 years without problems and the casts have much better definition than obtained with cerrosafe.

Thanks Fred,
I think I will give both methods a go (slugging and filler paste/grease) and see if there is any measurable difference.
