After getting another tin of surplus 8x56R from Adam, I had to rearrange my ammo safe. Within the tin I already had I found this (sorry for the poor quality photo) -
Did some translating and top two lines say
For Machine Gun
250 Military Pointed* Cartridges
*I don't think any of the translating sites could cope with the Bulgarian for Spitzer!
As best I can make out the rest is to with manufacturing details for the ammo. The 'For Machine Gun' does explain the fun factor of shooting this ammo! :shakeshout:

Yeah but it's worth it!jjvc wrote:Aye it's a bit pokey !

According to this comparison between the Austrian and Bulgarian ammo, the Austrian ammo has about 3 grains less powder than the Bulgarian stuff.

Good link SG, I have never come across any of the Austrian rounds to try but I don't mind the Bulgarian stuff, the other week I was was bowling over the 450m Fig 11s with regularity at one of my club shoots.
A couple of our probationary members did equally as well with my M95 & ammo but they did comment on the stout recoil.

 I offered some of the club members a go on my M95 last shoot and one accepted. He declined the offer of another clip after shooting off the first clip - however he had a huge grin when he finished, but I'm not if it was because he enjoyed it or the fact he was finished shooting?jjvc wrote:Good link SG, I have never come across any of the Austrian rounds to try but I don't mind the Bulgarian stuff, the other week I was was bowling over the 450m Fig 11s with regularity at one of my club shoots.

I've never found or shot any of the Austrian ammo either. I have a 100rds of the Prvi ammo which I haven't shot but according to the Prvi website it should do 2300fps from a 24 inch barrel. From that, I think the Prvi stuff might be similar to the Austrian ammo.
Regarding recoil; even though I've never shot a M44 MN, I think it's recoil would seem tame compared to the M95 - be interesting to see if I'm right.

I also found these bullets which might be good for plinking ammo.
The bottom line is my M95 is one of my favourite rifles and if I had room I'd have more of them.
