A real torture test for an AK is to leave it in a swamp for a week, then swill it out with seawater and freeze it to -50 then run 75 round drum after drum through it until the barrel glows and the handguards start to smoke. After that give it a good clean and oil and its ready for the next time!!!.

There's a video on Youtube somewhere of a wooden AK with the fore grips on fire!

People bag on the M16 compared to the AK's reliability but one day at the range at Ft. Meade MD after a long day of qual fire we had God knows how many loaded 30 rd magazines left over. I put so many magazines through an M16A1 to use them up that the gas tube was glowing orange-red and every drop of lube burned off the mechanism but it kept firing full auto for every pull of the trigger.

Then we started on the M60. It pulled a 500 rd belt through the action without a hiccup again after a day's firing. Then a couple more! It almost got monotonous.
