Fitting optics?

Hi! So, i've seen on youtube lots of shooters fitting optics, red dots on shotguns in US. Is it a bad idea or not? I guess it is for deer and slug (local laws there).

Thx for answer! Got gun already (mossberg pump), saddle mount is £50 on our amazon, in US only $22. So still looking for options. Thinking of a red dot maybe. Haven't decided yet. Just looking into the idea.Dangermouse wrote:Two ways to do this.
Firstly buy a SG with a rail attached.
Second is to use a sadle mount or similar mount that attatches to the side of the receiver. I have seen this method cause problems to the opperating as it would appear to bend or flex the reciever to the point it interfears with oppeartion.
Sights, scopes dots etc are something you should try but on the field I have seen as many good scores recorded without as I have with.

Fits between the butt and receiver.
Some guys I do Practical shotgun with use optics but this then puts you in open class where anything goes (box fed mags, optics, ported barrels etc). They are great for slug matches, last year there was a guy in my squad on a slug match who had some old pump gun and he had a pop up metal sight on it and he aced virtually every shot and it really came into its own when we had a stage with clays hanging from string and also a stage with bowling pins, he got every single one but still only finished in the top ten and was beaten by many standard division shooters without sights.londonercsecse wrote:Hi!
