Hello,
Does any one have any info on a parker hale 800 or winchester 101xtr ?
I heard they were made in japan in 70s / 80s.
I had a go of one when i brought my cz17 hmr.
Everything felt right when i shouldered it.
So any info on these would be good.
Thanks.

Can't tell you anything about the Parker Hale 800 - never seen one.

All the original Winchester 101s were made in Japan from - I would guess - about mid-60s until they went out of production. I have a 1968-made Winchester 101 Skeet and it is clearly marked 'Made in Japan'. The new Winchester 101s are apparently made in Belgium.

The Winchester 101 is a fine shotgun. I love mine but don't use it much. This is not uncommon due to a long-standing shortage of spares (particularly springs and firing pins). These days is you break a firing pin you are looking at having one custom-made by a gunsmith, with the attendant cost. Not quite sure whether the new 101 parts will interchange with the originals and if so, whether that will see some of the 'safe queens' come out to play again. The only complaint against 101s is that they have a tall breech - compared to more modern designs with stub trunnions. The recoil is not straight back into the shoulder. This means that the 101 has slightly more felt recoil than say a Beretta 626.

I have a Winchester 101XTR... what would you like to know? I do like mine, and I renovated the wood on it just after purchasing it, but I rarely shoot clays these days so doesn't often make it out of my cabinet :(

It may well be, I'm in two minds if I want to get rid of it or not as it was my first shotgun...But I do want the new shiny!!

Post deleted.

This is not the for sale section!

So no for sale posting, want to buys or fishing posts here.

We have a for sale section for that.

Abide by the rules, both in the letter and spirit.

If memory serves parker hale shotguns look good but they had massive problems with both barrels shooting at once, but what really let them down was getting any spare parts......that's what I remember my dad saying about parker hale shotguns

My memory of Parker Hale shotguns made in the seventies were that they were made by several different Italian makers and badged up for PH. Their quality varied but certainly wasn't at the top end of the market. By contrast the Winchester 101 was a good quality gun made by Mirokou in Japan for Winchester.
