hi all-if any of you was waiting for CSA vz58 in .22 calibre just stop dreaming-after my enquiry via email to CSA factory in Czech Republic after 2 days they replayed-sorry,development stopped and dropped in favour of VZ61 scorpion .22 and new other pistol,so-maybe not all the bad news?-thnx,jb

The Vz61 Skorpion would be nice.....if it wasnt for the fact it will end up with a dirty long barrel wrapped in a fake suppressor for it to be UK legal :(

but I was thinking about .22WMR gas operated Vz58 as THE CLOSEST rifle here in UK to the REAL THING-and was prepared to pay some extra for this...oh well,is still possible to build it here but only from new parts,hmm...will ask for .22 slot too...just in case...

A gas operated ( therefore semi-auto) .22WMR would be illegal as no semi-autos other than .22lr

there is plenty semi autos in .22WMR on the market,also-asked one RFD about it,answer was yes-can be done(maybe for now,because you never know how HO will react...sadly times when "if it is not illegal is ok" passed away...)

Prohibited weapons and ammunition.

(1)Section 5 of the M1Firearms Act 1968 (in this Act referred to as “the principal Act”) shall have effect with the following amendments the purpose of which is to extend the class of prohibited weapons and ammunition, that is to say weapons and ammunition the possession, purchase, acquisition, manufacture, sale or transfer of which requires the authority of the Secretary of State.

(2)For paragraph (a) of subsection (1) there shall be substituted—

“(a)any firearm which is so designed or adapted that two or more missiles can be successively discharged without repeated pressure on the trigger;

(ab)any self-loading or pump-action rifle other than one which is chambered for .22 rim-fire cartridges

Which explains why semi auto firearms in .17M2 or .17HMR are not allowed but .22WMR is! :cool2:

Someone told me that it used to say .22 rimfire or smaller, or words to that effect, anyone know if that's true?

There are some .22 rimfire VZ58s in the UK marketed as 'Highland Arms' by William Evans at Bisley. These appear to be a Zahal conversion kit permanently fixed in place in an ex-issue CZ58 rifle.
Mags are 25 rounder inserts fitted in the original 30 round magazine body. 600 quid which isn't too bad - I went to have a look at them and they are built like a tank. Might get one later in the year...search on guntrader for them.

There was talk of getting this into the legislation after the Cumbrian shootings by ACPO (believe it or not!), but as no new firearms legislation resulted it was dropped
