Service Rifle. Not Civilian Service Rifle, but the version based on ye olde faithful Lee Enfield and suchlike.

Does this still exist as a separate discipline? Are there competitions for it? Is it all solely run by LERA or the HBSA or some such body?

That's pretty much what the Trafalgar and IHAM (Imperial historic arms meeting) are about, with service rifles categorised into BP, vintage, classic and veteran, then further sub-categorised into issued sights, scopes, etc...

I shoot SMLE and Sweedish Mauser in the pre-1919 design Classic class...and I think No.4s usually go into veteran.

If you are planning on entering then the rust and pitting on your rifle will need to be in the spirit of the original too.

I have shot Service Rifle at club level a few times. Last COF was:

10 shots kneeling or sitting in 60 seconds with mandatory reload 100m
10 shots in 5 minutes prone 200m
10 shots in 5 minutes prone 300m

I have also shot

10 shots standing in 60 seconds with mandatory reload 100m
10 shots in 5 minutes kneeling or sitting 200m
10 shots in 5 minutes prone 300m

This is not CSR however it is an accepted format at some clubs.

Rules are basically it needs to be a service rifle, no after market sights, shot with sling if wished and shot Bisley style so no part of the forearm rested.

This is the sort of thing I was thinking of, . Was more wondering whether there are regular shoots during the year organised by the NRA or anyone like that. If it's just the big meetings then that's a bit sad - will have to stick to club-level blatting.

My poor rifles!

The HBSA, LERA and other clubs organise shoots for classic rifles and courses of fire.

Don't dismiss CSR, the Historics shoot in their own class although the numbers are small with only 6 out of 88 in that class in the last match.

LERA used to run some Enfield only matches the next nearest is probably the Trafalgar Meeting.

We have a monthly comp.for what we call 'Classic Military Rifle' at Diggle for rifles made up to the end of WW2. Authentic slings, chamberings and battle-sights only. We shoot all ranges 200 to 800 yards with 'snaps', mad-minute stuff at shorter ranges.

You could always organise something yourself or through your club. I have organised a couple of RBL shoots and something in aid of charity usually gets good support.
